The frustration starts with an error that notifies me of a missing NSClient.exe file (Netscape Dial-Up) so I just figured I must have accidentally deleted it. I end up going to the local library for wifi on my bro's laptop to download an installation file from my ISP's site. The "dialer" program is different from the original; instead of the NSClient.exe it uses LiteDialer.exe which I assume is only a smaller version of the original installation files. When I try to install LiteDialer after uninstalling the original files, everything works out alright but then I go start it up and for a split second I see it load up in the taskbar and toolbar and then disappear. I check the task manager and see the program isn't running at all. So I try uninstalling it and then installing it again in safe mode, restart and the same thing happens. I've also tried downloading spyware doctor and installing updates for Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and deleting a couple... k maybe more than just a couple threats but the same thing still happens. I'm not sure if this helps but here's a look at the HijackThis log:

Thanks a bunch for any help in advance. I'm a bit of a novice but can find my way around. ...by the way Norton is out of date by about 1-2 years and I have no clue how to update it without getting back online. Thanks again!

I am confused why you think this is malware related? Your log is clean and this does not appear to be a malware issue. Are you sure the LiteDialer is even supposed to stay resident and not just do its thing and close?

I would post your question on how to update Norton in the following forum:

AntiVirus, Firewall and Privacy Products and Protection Methods

I would then post your dialer problems in this forum:

Networking

As for your log, I would just fix these two entries just to clean it up a bit:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: NOW!Imaging - {9AA2F14F-E956-44B8-8694-A5B615CDF341} - (no file)
