...the files it describes. My symantec tells me I have a "Downloader" virus it cannot remove, Spybot - S&D tells me I have several Drivecleaner 2006 and Vundomonde files it cannot remove. I followed all instructions for preparation to post Hijackthis! log, though was unable to download any of the 3 Malware programs, and am not sure about the firewall portion.

I haven't followed the Vundo fix instructions yet, though I did it a couple of weeks ago it seemed to work but now I seem to have 5x as many problems. Not sutre if I never got rid of the original virus or if it is not really Vundo.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today.
Using My Computer, navigate to where you have HijackThis saved.
Right-click on the HijackThis.exe file.
Select "Rename", call it fluffybunny and press enter.
Use fluffybunny.exe from now on.

Then scan again with fluffybunny and post back the new log.
Thanks,
Charles

Changing the name of the file really helps? I think I did the right thing...I had it on the desktop and just renamed it? It doesn't look any different...

I'm so sorry for the lag time, I am having some serious issues and will do everything I can to respond timely though I can't promise anything. Thanks so much for your help

It doesn't look to me like you changed the name correctly, so can youplease try once more for me. You should be changing the name of the file located in C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.

Hello--I am so sorry--I had a family crisis, and just now am able to get back online. I have had the phoneline that brings the DSL to my house repaired (it was severed), and I have the whole night to work on this (if you don't mind).

Things seem to have gotten worse, my virus notification (symantec) keeps telling me a "Downloader" hit and it cannot quarantine it. Also, a lot of Vundos, though it seems able to quarantine them.

Getting back to the Hijackthis log...I changed the name on the icon in my desktop, so it must have just changed t he shortcut (I am not super computer-literate), and before I came here I ran another hijackthis log, then saw your reply, plugged in what you had below on the "Run:" in start menu, and changed the name to fluffybunny there, though when i ran it the log looks pretty much the same. I think I am going to reboot and try again, in the meantime, here is the second (fluffybunny? Hopefully) log:

Actually, that was what I was looking for ... a few more lines have shown up that were not visible before.

Please download VundoFix to your Desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt in your next reply.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Please include VundoFix.txt and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
Thanks,
Charles

Ran Vundofix, had it on my computer from the first time around. It got rid of some, though it kept telling me to reboot, it could not delete:C:\\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhh.dll

also, the scan finds this, though does not mention it when deleting:
delete:C:\\WINDOWS\system32\hhkmp.ini

Vundofix kept looping me around to reboot, and created no log. Here is the hijackthis (fluffybunny) log:

Just a little update..I ran Adaware, it found a bunch of objects it removed. Symantec now tells me I have Virus: Trojan Horse -- I had been getting Trojan Horse Vundo or Downloader.

The bubble that comes up from the shield in my toolbare tells me I am at risk as my virus protection is unknown and firewall is not up, though when I click on tit (Windows Security Alert) it tells me my firewall is on.

I constantly have the Spyware Doctor popping up in the bottom right hand quarter offering new updates, this has been consisent.

The computer's performance has dramatically decreased (speed-wise and it keeps shutting down.

When I tried to run a scan from safe mode yesterday, I ended up with a blank screen when I went to the start menu.

The tool bar has been disappearing when I open some internet windows.

I mainly use firefox, the popups I keep getting are on Explorer.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix re-opens, click "Scan for Vundo" button.
Once the scan is complete, right click inside the listbox (white box) and click "Add More Files"
Copy and paste the entries below into the top boxes (no arrows):

--> C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhh.dll
--> C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pmnomno.dll

Click "Add Files" and click "Close Window".
Click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your Desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo - this is normal.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.

Please include VundoFix.txt (which should now be created) and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
Thanks,
Charles

Vundofix keeps telling me it cannot delete the \pmkhh.dll file, and loops me around to rebooting my computer, then Vundofix pops up again and I get the same results. Also, no .txt file.

Here's my latest Hijackthis log:

Download Combofix to your Desktop. It is really important that combofix.exe is on your Desktop, not somewhere else!
Then go to Start | Run and copy and paste this command in the field:
"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\combofix.exe" /v pmkhh pmnomno
Hit enter. This should start Combofix.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished and after reboot, it should open a log (combofix.txt), please include this in your next reply.

I'd like to see the Combofix log and a new HJT log in your reply.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello there,
Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.

Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to each of the following entries (if present):

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)

Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix checked button.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.
Make sure you choose the option without Networking Support.

Set your system to show all files.
Navigate to Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options.
Select the View tab. Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Next, please find and delete the following file (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\oupkwwyh.dll

The steps that I am about to suggest involve modifying the registry. Modifying the registry can be dangerous so we will make a backup of the registry first.

Backup the Registry:
Navigate to Start | Run and paste the following:
regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg
Now click OK
It won't appear to be doing anything, that's normal.
Your mouse pointer may turn to an hour glass for a minute.
Please continue when it no longer has the hour glass.

Open Notepad and copy and paste the following quotebox into a new text document. (Don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4!)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\MemoryManager]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\{ZN}]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your Desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Double-click on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click Yes/OK.

Reboot into Normal Mode again.

Then please scan once more with HijackThis and post back the new log.
Thanks,
Charles

HI...and thanks so much for all your help, my life's pretty hectic but at least you are making one thing relatively easy for me, I appreciate your concise instructions and hope that I am getting somewhere, I have never had problems like these and I've been online for quite some time.

I followed all instructions. When I went to name the text file fix.reg, I found that my keyboard was not responding--though the lights came on when I rebooted it for safe mode and the number lock light was on when I was trying to type. I copy and pasted the name, and when I clicked yes to add the file to my registry, it told me that it was not a registry file and it had to be binary.

There was no file named oupkwwyh.dll in system32, and I was able to delete all of the hijack entries.

Also, my wife got a blue screen this morning (I was not here) and she said control-alt-delete was not working (I was not there), so she turned off the power. When she turned it on again, she got the wallpaper (after a long time, walked away for five mins, and came back to the blue screen. The blue screen said it was a terminal error...if this is the first time you received this reboot, if not contact technical support. She turned it back on, walked away and never came back to it. When I came in, it was running fine and all the windows I had up when I left this morning were up as if she had never touched it. I sat down and opened your message and proceeded to follow your directions, I asked her if she had an keyboard issues when I got to the fix.reg step not even knowing she had tried using the computer today.

Here my latest log:
