Hello, i have AVG and Outpost Firewall installed, yet i have had some signs that a Trojan or Backdoor may have slipped onto my system, i attach my Hijack This log and my dxdiag fyi and would appreciate any help and suggesitons.

I have an AMD 3400, with 2.5 GB RAM and 400 GB Hard Drive, running Win XP Pro SP2, and keep AVG running and Outpost Firewall except once in a while I need to turn them off to do a specific download. I have had some Trojan alerts recnetly and my Internet Explorer does something weird, if i shut down after surfing, IE starts openning up a gazillion windows right on top of each other until there are 50 or more and they keep openning until i turn off my DSL connection...which is strange.

I was wondering how the Trojans keep appearing, as i clean my system with AVG and AdAware, and it puts the trojans it finds into the virus vault...do i need to delete the vault to get rid of them?

I had a backdoor Trojan alert yesterday and another Trojan today, it said it was actually a system file and was I sure i wanted to delete it, i put it into the vault, it was a System/32/WINSPY file as i recall, and today there AVG found a

MyDoccuments/settings/local settings/temp/croine.exec.sheriv i think it was called, i attach also the log from my AVG vault ot help with the initial look

I was helped immensly by PappaKid a while ago with a previous problem set, and it was all cleaned up i thought, but there seem to be some survivors or new invaders...any help would be great, i am doing a complete system AVG scan now, and will keep working on it as i can, i have a number of the debug programs still installed including ComboFix, ATF Cleaner, HIjack This, RegSearch, SDFix and others that Pappa had me use. I will keep doing what i can. thanks

Ran AVG full system scan and AdAware Person scan and then the existing HijackThis install i had from the first time i had to clean my system and the log read thus:, earlier today:

I tried to save time and run ComboFix but after i double clicked on the icon on my desktop it did not do anything, i waited about an hour three times but had no prompts or sign that it was running so i shut down the system and rebooted and decided to wait until i hear from you all. thanks for any help.

Update: I did a SUPERAntiSpyware scan, took all night and it foudn this:

I am wondering if the CombFix would not run because i have AVG and my firewall running, i was not sure if i should turn them off or not, i am off to work, will keep an eye on this from there.

Hey Chris,

Sorry for the delay. Very busy here in the summer months. If you still need help, please post a brand new HJT log and we will get started. So far I have seen nothing wrong with your logs, but maybe something will be apparent with a new one.

Hi Grinler!!!! thank you so much. I figured you all were indeed very busy.

I had another trojan alert just yesterday early in the day just after I turned on my computer and one the day before the one the day before was System file and i moved it to the virus vault and AGS wanted to shut down and restart my system. It was a trojan of some kind, it is still in the AVG vault along with most of the otheres i found recently. I have not purged it yet, was wiating for your instrucitons.

I then found another alert of another trojan yesterday and i tried the heal option and it went away.

so here is the new HJT log:

i have not had that weird fault where my brower window starts spawining a hundred new windows of browser, but i had that maybe five or six times in the past month, but not since i did all the scans in preperation for this work with you.

I have not been able to get ComboFix.exe to run successfully yet, i thought at the time i tried it when i had first contacted you recnetly,( i was trying to do all i could on my own by reading the replies you all give to most with trojans like me to try to get a head start on this....) anyway, Combo Fix would not run, and I thought later it might be because I stil had my firewall and AVG running, but i will wait to see what you want me to do.

I work days so if i am slow replying it is because of that. but I would very much appreciate any help.

I had one BSOD during the height of the trojan alerts and during the time i was scanning and doing all the steps you all ask u s to to in prep, but none since then...

thanks and i am standing by.

btw my java should be updated ...and i will emtpy out all my temp files etc while i am waiting for your instructions.

Ok, I missed this on my first review, but you do indeed have a Trojan on your computer.

O23 - Service: Power Adapter (ADIDown) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe

The trojan is Troj/Maran-K and info can be found here:

http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/trojmarank.html

One thing that you should know is that this Trojan is considered a information stealer. So when we have it clean it is important that you change all your passwords, online or otherwise.

If you do not mind, I would love to get some samples of this infection before we remove it. One of the files may actually help us to remove it, but I would like to examine it first.

Download this program:

Suspicious files packer

Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy.

C:\Windows\svchost.exe
C:\Windows\System32\delmeml.bat
C:\Windows\System32\oj3sound.dll
C:\Windows\System32\zzt.exe

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example crisger.cab).

Then go to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button.

Based on your blog I assume UruExplorer.exe is legit?

Also, as you said, before posting a new log update to the latest version of Java as there are known security bugs in the older version. I see, from your posts and blog, that you know computers so we should be able to get this beat fairly quickly.

OK Grinler, dl'd the files you asked for and send them over as requested. When I did the scan i got a Trojan Horse detected alert from AVG (was i supposed to turn off AVG for these proceedures?)

and again when i did the new HJT scan and log. I did not do anything to the virus without instructions from you, such as heal or remove.

new HJT log: (I updated Java as instructed)

Please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\Windows\svchost.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\delmeml.bat
    C:\Windows\System32\oj3sound.dll
    C:\Windows\System32\zzt.exe

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Close OTMoveIt
  • Please "Copy" the results from the "Results" window (to the right) and then "Paste" them into your next reply on the forum.
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process.
If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
In that case, you will find a copy of the log at the root of the drive where OTMoveIt is installed, usually at :
C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\********_******.log (where "********_******" is the "date_time")

Also post a brand new hjt log along with it.

Ok I see that you updated Java, but I also see an old version of the file running. Go into add or remove programs and uninstall all Sun Javas that you see there. Then redownload and install the latest.

Then,

Run HijackThis.
Click on the Config button.
Click on Misc Tools button.
Click on Delete an NT Service
Copy and paste the following bold text into the: ADIDown
Click the Ok.

When it asks if you want to reboot your computer. Click on the No button.

Close all open Windows but HijackThis (so you may want to print these instructions).

Click the back button to get to the main HijackThis screen and click Scan. Then put a checkmark next to each of the items below and press the fix button.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log. Once we have this cleaned up we will try and run Combofix again.

Grinler, I can't complete the first step, deleting the NT service,
when i go into the Misc Tools and click on Delete the NT Service button, i get a llittle menu window and i paste in the exact name you gave me, i get a Cannot proceed warning alert saying that service is already enabled or running and that I have to use Hijack This to disable it or the Services.msc to do so, and i cannot tell which of the items on the Hijack This log list is that program nor how to disable it using Hijack this...can you advise?

i entered:

ADIDown

and i got this alert saying:

The Service 'ADIDown' is enabled and/or running. Disable it first using Hijack This itself first (from the scan results) or the Services msc window.

I did a scan, but could not tell which was that program nor how to disable it using the scan results....

the scan said:

but i do not know which file to disable nor how to do so using HJT...
i await your intructions. I got Java reinstalled btw. thanks
chris......
ok i poked around and found the file on the log list, it is called Services: Power Adapter (ADIDown) and i asked the Hijack This log for details after checking that entry, it said i had to stop it using the Services dialog in the Adminstrative Tools Window, so i went there via the Control panel and found the entry for that file set, but according to the way it looks, is should be already off, because the only option i had was to Start.....

going back to the Hijack This Log, my only choices once the item is checked in the check box are:

Scan, Fix This, Info on Selected Item, Analyize this, Main Menu, Other Stuff: Info, Config, Add Checked to Ignore list,

I do not know which one to use to turn this serivce off, so i will wait for your directions and comands.
\

ok now i need help. :flowers:

OK, I am ready for the next step, and please, Grimler, let me know if i should turn OFF my firewall and anti virus BEFORE i run Combofix?

And will i lose drivers or other settings running it? just wanted to check, as i noted since I tried to run it previously those two or three times, i have an occasional notice saying Driver 1045 i believe it is (not positive about the number) , cant be found.....so i wondered...thanks

Sorry I could not get back to you last night. One of my children decided to wake up at 9 and not go back to sleep till 1 am. Wasn't what I expected for the night to say the least

Excellent job removing the service. I want to try giving combofix a run now that we cleaned you up a bit. Please delete any existing combofix folders from your computer and then do the following.
  • Download Combofix to your desktop.

  • Doubleclick combofix.exe

  • Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, and after reboot if it asks for one, combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a while so please be patient. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open called combofix.txt.

Post the contents of this log in your next reply along with a new hijackthislog.

Please do not post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask you to.

Download this program:

Suspicious files packer

Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy.

C:\WINDOWS\ST6UNST.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\Setup1.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\Prodigal.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\winsetup.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\AGS_Fire.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\alleg40.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\asbp2poa.sys
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\sony_ssm.sys

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example grinler.cab).

Then go to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button.
