Hello All,
Using XP Pro SP2. Not sure when this happened, but "My Computer" icon has been replaced with "System Properties". Modifying the Desktop does not work as My Computer does not show up - the check box is there and is checked, but the icon is for System Properties. And that is what shows up in Start and Windows Explorer.
Tried TweakUI - all the right stuff appears under My Computer, but doesn't change anything.
In the registry:
HideDesktopIcons set to 0
HideComputerIcons set to 0
Policy for MyComp (value not set)
MyComputer (value not set)
Not sure what file(s) to look for.
Anybody experienced anything similar?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Right-click the desktop and choose Properties. Click on the desktop tab and then select "customize desktop". Check my computer, click apply and ok

Thanks Mark, but that was the first thing that I tried. Problem is Desktop is only a switch, and something seems to have switched My Computer with System Properties. As far as I know System Properties isn't usually found when you open "customize desktop" - but it is on mine. Not even sure if My Computer exists anymore.

Thanks mme,
I can hide it what is now "System Properties", but can't delete it. "My Computer" just doesn't show up anywhere. It is GONE, not just switched off.
Since I can access most everything that is in "My Computer" in other ways with a little bit of digging, this is not important enough to spend any more time on it. Thought it might be something simple that I was overlooking
Thanks to those that viewed my post and especially to those that took the time to try and help.
