Hi

I hope someone can help me.

Over the last few days I have been having problems with Internet Explorer 6. I recieve this message when I am browsing a site and it is now getting very annoying.

I have some of the error report below if that may help.
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00151317

Also, I had programs such as Avast, Spy Bot and Stinger previously and now these do not work now. I think whatever it is has disabled these programs.

I have run HJT and the results are below. It doesnt look like it has found anything. I dont want to install IE7 or any other browser as I didnt like them. Please advise. thanks.

ymsm, I am terribly sorry for the long wait....I was awaiting approval to post....but here we go, if you still need help...

Before we begin, you should save these instructions in Notepad to your desktop, or print them, for easy reference. Much of our fix will be done in Safe mode, and you will be unable to access this thread at that time. If you have questions at any point, or are unsure of the instructions, feel free to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding.

Hey there ymsm, thanks for posting a new log. You have some infections, but first things first...your log shows no active Antivirus Program. I see you may have had Avast antivirus, but it is not running. Would you please install an antivirus program, or reinstall Avast?

I use AVG Free Edition, which can be downloaded from: this site
Install it and update to the latest virus definitions. For help in doing this, see this page.

To reinstall Avast, get it here.
Install and download the latest definitions. For help in doing so, look here.

Next, you don't have a firewall running either. It is highly recommended that you have a firewall running at all times you are connected to the Internet.
A firewall is a system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. - Webopedia.
There is a list of free firewalls at this site. (I recommend either ZoneAlarm or Comodo. You can read about them, and try any one you wish, but please install one at this point. Remember to ask if you have questions!)

After downloading and setting both of those up, please go ahead and download and run VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Then,
******
Part 1:
******
Please download SmitfraudFix
  • Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
  • Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
  • Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
Note :process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

******
Part 2:
******
You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Reboot into Safe Mode by continuously tapping the F8 key as soon as the computer begins to boot. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
  • Once in Safe Mode, double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
  • Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
  • You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
  • The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
