I have the same problem, except that i cannot ipconfig /release beacause it responds that my card is not authorized to do this operation. This is my comp and i'm the only user, so I suppose the admin too...
I'm using:
Linksys WRT54G v 5,

my dsl provider is Bell sympatico and my modem (non-router) is Siemens Speedstream 4200

Any suggestion?
Patrice

Have you updated the firmware at the Linksys site? Which NIC are you using? Have you used the repair feature in the network properties for your NIC?

That modem has a router built in. Siemens Speedstream 4200 manual has the specifications on the device. You can even use the USB port and Ethernet port at the same time.
If you go to page 17 it will describe how to enter the modems setup page. You simply type in http://speedstream in the address bar of your browser.
As in the first part of this reply I would suggest you look and see if you modem needs a firmware update.
