Approx. last Thursday, I was unable to access anything on my computer, save a few items.

Everytime I try to start a program from its desktop icon or from the Start menu, I get the same message.

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"

I was able to open the control panel, I believe but nothing beyond that. I can't do anything or access anything. It doesn't even allow me to do anything in safe mode. I thought that maybe it was my Firewall (ZoneAlarm Suite), but I can't even access ZoneAlarm to turn it off. I have all of these suggestions from different places but they are ALL foggy. Can anyone help me?
