Hello Rebmahc,

I am SifuMike and I will be helping you.

It looks like you have several registry protectors running:
AVG Anti-Spyware guard , windows Defender, and Spybot TeaTimer.

You should only be running one registry protector, as running more than one will slow your computer.

So disable two of them, leave only one registry protector running.

To disable Spybot's Teatimer:
Run Spybot-S&D
Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

To disable AVG Antispyware guard:
Open AVG Antispyware and in the main window click "Resident Shield", then toggle the AVG Anti-Spyware active protection 'off' by clicking 'Change state' which will then change the protection status to 'inactive'.
When you reboot, AVG Anti-Spyware will prompt you as to whether you would like to "Restart the guard?".
Reply 'No' and set it to 'inactive'

To disable Windows Defender
Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not download the Beta version 2.0. Do not run it yet!

CCleaner Tutorial

*******************************************

Select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix."

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3C060EA2-E6A9-4E49-A530-D4657B8C449A} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {56071E0D-C61B-11D3-B41C-00E02927A304} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7c1ce531-09e9-4fc5-9803-1c2956615786} - (no file)

These are optinal fixes. The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but I suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CARPService] \"carpserv.exe\"
(Description: Not necessary. Carpserv info)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] \"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\jusched.exe\"
(Description: Sun Java update scheduler. Checks for updates. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

*******************************************

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

CAUTION: Please do NOT use the Issues button. This is a built-in registry cleaner. If you don't know how to use it, you may cause irreparable damage to your system.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

*******************************************

Finally, reboot your computer, post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.

Thanks for your time and help SifuMike

Ive done as you suggested. I left Spybot Tea-Timer on and turned off Defender, but AVG-AntiSpyware didnt have the option to turn it off as it is already off because ive not got the full version, the real time protection is turned off already. Do i need to delete anything else with HJT to remove it from the registry?

The computer is running a little quicker actually. Its taking about 3-4 mins to load up firefox from turning on the system, where as before it would take 5-6mins. Does the log look quite clean?

Heres my new HJT log, thanks again:

Hi Rebmahc,

Your log looks clean! Good job on the cleanup!

but AVG-AntiSpyware didnt have the option to turn it off as it is already off because ive not got the full version, the real time protection is turned off already. Do i need to delete anything else with HJT to remove it from the registry?

No, your log is fine the way it is.

Let's clean your System Restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows.
The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files.
This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

1. Turn off System Restore.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK

2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
NOTE: only do this ONCE, NOT on a regular basis

System Restore will now be active again.

Please read and follow How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!

Thanks for looking into this, does that mean my system is clean and nothing to worry about? Ive just been told by a friend that i also need to keep my java up to date, is this correct? What are the java entries in my HJT log?

If this is everything already, Thanks so much again for your time

 :flowers:

Yes, you are good to go.

It is important to keep java updated, as old versions are used by malware. So you need to uninstall the old versions of Java before installing the new vernions.

This shows you have the latest Java version. :flowers:

however, it may be updated at any time, so you need to go to the Java site http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp to see if there is a new version available.
