Every time I try to do a full system virus scan whether with Norton or AVG the system gets well into the scan and all of a sudden everything goes black and XP Home just completely shuts down and restarts with the disc check and the whole magilla!!!!

SP 2 is installed and was giving no problems up until now!

Any ideas folks???

It could be an infection trying to disable the programs and causing more issues than it intended. Have you tried running these scans in safe mode?
