Lesson learned from last computer, I immediately installed spyware blaster and spybot search and destroy (with tea timer) on the new computer, and routinely check for updates. I get the occasional ccapp.exe error message when rebooting, usually hand in hand with slow browsing - hence the reboot. Is this log clean? Thanks again in advance!

Hello Rockhead,

You have a CWS infection on your computer. Not to worry, we will soon have it off.

****************************************************

Before we begin, you need to disable Spybot Teatimer while we do the fixes. You can enable it after we have your computer clean.
This site will show you how to disable it. http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

****************************************************

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Please boot into Safe Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

****************************************************

Next, we're going on a file hunt.
Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders' and deselect (uncheck) 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)'.

Find and delete each of the following. If you can't delete an item, right-click it and click properties. Make sure 'read-only' is unchecked.
If you still can't delete something, right-click it and rename it to a random word. Then drag the item to a different location. Try deleting it now. If you still can't, be sure to let me know.

Delete the following files/folders in bold:

ALCMTR.EXE <==file You will have to search for this file. It may be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ or C:\WINDOWS\
ALCXMNTR.EXE <==file You will have to search for this file. It may be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ or C:\WINDOWS\

****************************************************

Let empty the temp files:

When in Safe Mode, open notepad and paste in the following lines:

del c:\ *.tmp
del %temp%\*.tmp /f
del %windir%\prefetch\*.*
del %windir%\temp\*.* /f
del C:\documents and settings\*\local settings\temp\*.* /f

Save to desktop as 'clean.bat'. Make sure before you save to set 'file types' to all types. ( *.*)

DoubleClick on the icon, and say Yes when prompted.

****************************************************

Finally, reboot and post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.
