Teen Unlocks iPhone For Use With Other Networks
by Kristina Fiore

A 17-year-old from New Jersey has unlocked the Apple iPhone from AT&T's network, claiming the phone can be used with a sim card from any other network provider.

George Hotz, of Glen Rock, demonstrated that his iPhone is currently running T-Mobile's service in a video he posted to YouTube.

Story

I saw him on MSNBC today .... he soldered 2 wires and ran some software and then put in his TMobile chip. called his house. This opens the phone to all netwoks.
Yes he voided the warranty. He still doesn't have a straight software to do it.
Apple shares moved up 3% after that.
Those NJ kids are pretty crafty !!

This will be good for Apple in the long run. (despite how angry they may act now).

Hmmm...

will Apple really care? This just means their product is even more useful.

AT&T might not be so happy, though.

Interesting that within 24 hours of the hardware unlock you have a software unlock.
Apple shares spiked on the news.
I've seen no comment by ATT, but I'm sure they're boiling. I'm pretty sure that Hotz is protected and even iphonesimfree by DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act).

Now I don't use Ebay so if someone can just tell me the real price he is offered for the Phone he put up. I think those billion offers must be fake.
