As soon as I open Internet Explorer, I find PCGuard bombarding me with alerts saying that I have viruses - mainly Trojans. Also, I have recently started getting hit by lots of pop ups.

Here is my HijackThis log, can somebody help please?

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum Ross TPO
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

First of all you've no virus protection installed.
Download\install one of the following freeware options from the choice below.
Once installed update its definitions and then run a full system virus scan.

AVG7 Free Edition Antivirus:
http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup...ree_446a965.exe

Avast! 4 Home Edition:
http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe

Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic
http://www.free-av.com/

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting 'Fix checked'.
Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8f07ae3b-553b-4f33-8146-20a4a1cc4cfd} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mp4seq.dll (file missing)

Should I uninstall the previously meantioned PC Guard now I have AVG?

Are you indeed able to uninstall PCguard, because its provided by your ISP, Virgin Broadband.
If you are,then go ahead.

Don't forget PCguard comes with a firewall,so after the uninstallation of PCguard, you'll have to use the default XP Service Pack 2 firewall.
If you feel you require a more robust third party firewall then download\install one of the following freeware choices:

Outpost Firewall Free:

Sygate Personal Firewall Free Edition:

I installed the PC Guard so I imagine it shouldnt be a problem uninstalling it. Would you recommend that?

Or should I turn off the anti virus on the PC Guard but keep the Firewall on?

Thanks again for your help!

Everything seems to be working OK now - thanks mate.

One small problem that I have is when I first log into Windows, my System 32 folder pops up on start up...any way of stopping this happening?

Thanks again

I downloaded the file to my desktop then double clicked on it and it came up with :

"The script cannot repair your issue. The expected registry value was not found."

Disconnect from the internet.
Click on Start>Run,type msconfig then press Enter.
Under the 'Startup' tab uncheck EVERYTHING,then restart your pc.
If your pc starts up normally, start adding items/entries back by rechecking the boxes one at a time.
Reboot in between each one.
Keep trying that until you find the problem program/process.
*Note*
Don't forget to make sure your antivirus and firewall are running before you reconnect to the internet.

To remove that item from System Configuration Utility:
Click on Start/Run,type regedit then press Ok.
Navigate to the two following registry locations and look for an entry,Key,with no name/title,and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SharedTools\MSConfig\startupfolder
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg

If you're not sure what you're doing in the registry then do not attempt this.
That entry in the System Configuration Utility under the Startup tab will be just fine left alone.

If you do find the entry in the registry and want to delete it,do the following first:
Backup the registry by doing the following.
Click on Start>Run,copy and paste the following bold text into the 'Open:' space, then press Ok.
regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg
It won't appear to be doing anything, that's normal.
Your mouse pointer may have an hour glass along side it for a minute or so.
Please be patient and continue when the hour glass disappears.
