I recently had a serious virus infection on my computer. In following the instructions to remove ultimate defender the registry for IE was disturbed. I reinstalled IE 7, twice, to try to get the problem corrected. Based on microsoft suggestions, I reviewed the documents in the *.dll files and there were a few errors. Is it possible to have only the *.dll files installed to overwrite the errors in the registry.

Symptoms: IE7 opens and looks for homepage. After "connecting" it says "the page cannot be displayed" The web connection is fine since I can surf with Firefox, and get updates for Norton.

Welcome to Bleeping Computer Krinkster

Winsockxp fix can often cure the problem of lost Internet connections after the removal of Malware.

Download and run WinSock XP Fix.

Also have a look at Page Cannot be Displayed -IE7.
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.

Follow the instructions in Part 4: Register Internet Explorer DLLs from the link I provided in my first post for those remaining unregistered files.

Reflect, repent, and reboot.
