Hello. I hope someone can help me with the following problem.
When I restart Windows XP Home, I get a black screen with the following error message.

Userinit.exe Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

I click OK and after a while a blue screen appears with this message
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Technical information:

STOP: 0X00000050 (0XFFFFFFE8,0X00000001,0X804D9079,0X00000000)

When I start in Safe Mode I get the same error message as before:

Userinit.exe Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

In Safe Mode there is no Windows Explorer. The only way I can access explorer is by using Windows Task Manager and starting a new explorer task from there.

I've uninstalled all the software that I've installed over the last 2 weeks. I haven't any new hardware installed.

I downloaded a graphics driver recently but I have gone into Device Manager and rolled back.

I've tried chkdsk/f /r but with no luck and System Restore doesn't work (another problem). I've also tried using the Recovery Console but that doesn't work either, nor does Last Known Good Configuration

I've ran Spybot Search and Destroy without searching for updates because I can't get on the Internet. I can't run Ad-Aware SE Professional because it won't run without the latest definition file. I can't run Avast! which is my Anti Virus software.
I've done a Disk Cleanup and a Disk Defragmenter.

I run my Avast! virus scan, Spybot, Ad-Aware and Tuneup Utilites 2007 2-3 times a week.

I can run a Hijackthis log if it's needed here by copying it to a disk and transferring it to this computer.

The computer with problems is my main computer and I really am lost without it.

Please let me know if any other information is needed.

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

Try this:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/31163/userinitexe-problem/

If this doesn't work try these steps (from Safe Mode):

1) Go to C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch . Select all files there. Delete all the files.
2) Copy C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\userinit.exe to C:\WINDOWS\system32
3) Restart your system.
