after using high speed on theis computer (windows 98) ive had to go back to using my internal modem (conexant HPC) but when i tried to dial up my ISP i got the "install new modem wizard". ive deleted all traces of this modem from the device manager and computer as best as i could and reinstalled with a newer, downloaded driver. ive even physically removed the modem and plugged it into a different slot but the hardware wizard didnt detect anything. could this be a BIOS problem? is my modem kaput? help!

And you looked under the device manager under the system icon in the control panel and it shows no unknown devices or something that looks like its not working?
