Hi. I have Windows XP Home version with service pack 2 installed. For the last week or so, after I've been on the computer for awhile, my CD Rom drawer keeps opening and closing constantly, making an annoying sound. It even does this right to the end until I have logged off and turned off the computer. I never burn CD's and seldom have used this feature. I should also mention that while this drawer is opening and closing, a window appears saying autoplay is running. I click cancel and it says cancelling but this doesn't stop it. I also see an icon of a CD right beside the arrow where I'm pointing the mouse. I googled the problem and have done the following to no avail: 1. I used system restore to restore to a date prior to this problem happening 2. I found a site which told me the steps to repair auto play and did that too. 3. I disabled autoplay. 4. I've run McAffee and Adware scans a few times as well. Could this be a Trojan? It's kind of weird, but right now, I've been on the computer for a couple of hours and it hasn't happened. It seems to happen unexpectedly and sometimes it's as soon as I turn on the computer and other times it happens after the computer has been on for a few hours. I hope you can help me. Thank you in advance.

Could be a virus, could be a misbehaving program, could be a problem with the hardware.....

Try one of these free, online scans to ensure that something hasn't co-opted your McAfee scanner:

http://safety.live.com
http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Also, check your Event Viewer (go to Start...Run...type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter) and check the System and Application logs for events (errors, warnings, and information). Let us know what you find.

Let us know the results and we can move on from there.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Hi, I tried the Trend housecall and it found adware shorty, HKTL prokill A, Adware Digink, Hacking tools_Passget, Adware_enbrowser, spware_KEY_Astlog, adware best offers, freeloader_winfixer, Adware frun web products, and Troj_Generic. However, it took ALL day to scan. Then I clicked for it to remove everything BUT suddenly, the CD drawer started acting up SO BADLY again, that it never finished removing my problems. The computer completely froze up. So now I'm going to try the other scan program, if I can. I will also try your suggestion of typing in the run box the command that you suggested. Thanks, will keep you posted.

I went to the event viewer and found lots of warnings Dhcp, warning CDRom, warning plug play mgr, warning userenv and error DCOM, error serv.control mgr. Does this mean anything? I will try to run the safety site scan now. Thanks

Hi! I'm just wondering if I could send you my hijack this log? I just ran hijack this and saved it. If I am allowed to do so, could you give me the instructions as to how to send it? Thank you.
