Hi.

About two weeks ago, Norton Antivirus caught a number of viruses on my computer: winfixer, trojan.virtumonde, downloader. I had someone take a look at my computer and the three viruses were removed. He used VundoFix and VirtumundoBegone to get rid of winfixer. However, a couple of days later winfixer popped up again along with trojan.adclicker and trojan.dropper. While Norton claims to have deleted trojan.adclicker and trojan.dropper successfully, but winfixer only partially. Still, everytime i go on the internet, i'm hindered by pop-ups. the first time. I just completed running through 'Preparation Guide for Use Before Posting a Hijackthis Log' and I also checked the log to see if I could identify the 02 and corresponding 020 entries (that should represent the winfixer/virtumonde virus), but though some claim to have 'files missing,' there seem to be no pairs. attached is my hijackthis log. i hope you can help :] thanks.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum duckie15 :thumbsup:
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad".
This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article:
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

You are well advised to remove the program now.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present,then restart your pc:
Viewpoint
Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player

Download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri), to your desktop.
Double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option 1 – Search, by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy and paste the content of that report into your next reply.

*IMPORTANT*
Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Sorry for the late response,i somehow missed your reply.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri),to your desktop.
Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE using the F8 method.
To do this,restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd
Select #2 and hit Enter to delete the infected files.
You will be prompted: 'Do you want to clean the registry?' answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): 'Replace infected file ?' answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process.
The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Post the Smitfraudfix report into your next reply.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

no problem. thanks again for your help :]

after i ran smitfraudfix and cleaned the registry, i rebooted my computer and spybot search&destroy kept popping up about the registry changes. i just allowed most of them because i figured thats what smitfraud just fixed. i asked this earlier, but is it okay if i get rid of spybot? or are there any settings that will keep it from turning on automatically when my computer boots up? also, will it interfere at all with the norton antivirus i have?

here are the logs for both scans:

Please disable Spybot S&D’s protection,or it will interfere.
You can enable it after you're clean.

Then, check next to the computer clock to see if the icon for Spybot is still there.
If it is, right click it and choose 'exit Spybot-S&D Resident'.

my computer seems a lot better. i haven't had a pop-up ad show up since the first reply you sent. and though the computer starting up was a little slow just now, that may just be because super antispyware was loading automatically - so i turned the setting for starting automatically off. is it necessary to keep all these programs (such as antispyware and spybot) and run them from time to time? i always only had norton and lavasoft adaware active.

thanks so much for all your help!

when deleting :
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jjjlm.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jjjlm.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jjjlm.bak1,
i found jjlm.ini and jjlm.tmp. do i need to delete these as well?

also when you said to re-enable spybot, did you mean for me to enable it to start up automatically?

my computer seems good. its still kind of slow when the desktop loads, but i still think thats because i re-enabled spybot to run automatically. also, a file called thumbs.db is now on my desktop. do you know why it showed up? and if its not necessary, may i delete it?

thanks :]

Yes,delete those as well please.

also, a file called thumbs.db is now on my desktop.

The following will remove that:
* Click 'Start'.
* Open 'My Computer'.
* Select the 'Tools' menu and click 'Folder Options'.
* Select the 'View' tab.
* Under the 'Hidden files and folders' heading unselect 'Show hidden files and folders'.
* Re-check the 'Hide file extensions for known types' option.
* Re-check the 'Hide protected operating system files (recommended)' option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

also when you said to re-enable spybot, did you mean for me to enable it to start up automatically?

If you don't want to enable Spybots protection then don't,thats entirely up to you.

Your log is clean :thumbsup:
If all's ok,please do the following.

Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
In the 'System Restore' window,click on the 'Create a Restore Point' button,then click 'Next'.
In the window that appears,enter a description\name for the Restore Point,then click on 'Create',wait,then click 'Close'.
The date and time will be created automatically.

Next click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.
The 'Select Drive' box will appear,click on Ok.
The 'Disk Cleanup for [C:]' box will appear,click on the 'More Options' tab.
At the bottom in the 'System Restore' window,click on the 'Clean up...' button.
A box will pop up 'Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?',click on 'Yes'.
Click on 'Yes' at 'Are you sure you want to perform these actions?'.
Now wait until 'Disk Cleanup' finishes and the box disappears.
