Recently my 80 g external drive started making a loud noise and before I could get around to back it up it crashed. I tried using software recovery but I doesnt even pick it up. I am only trying to recover 2 g picture folder. Does anyone know of an unexpensive place where I send this to? The cheapest I found was 525.00 but I am still looking. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried several but I was told in order for ANY software to work, the drive has to spin up and be recognized in the My Computer area as a clickable drive....I believe mine is at a point where it needs to be opened??

http://www.google.com/search?q=hard+drive+...tart=0&sa=N I read many of these and for some it seems to work and not for others. I went through about three pages ,don't know if I'm convinced, but I would try it if I had no other choice.

Data recovery fees are based on the amount of damage to the drive (and the effort to recover it). Actually $500 is a pretty cheap price tag - most quotes for my 80 gB Western Digital drive were around $1600.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

I tried the freezer trick and still nothing. I can hear the drive turning trying to read but nothing.
