Hello,

I am running WinXP Pro and I keep finding processes runningn that i have no idea how they got started. I am ESPECIALLY talking about certain SERVICES such as "dvpapi" "IIS Admin" and some others that I SUSPECT are ONLY NEEDED if you have or are on a NETWORK WHICH I AM NOT!!!

How do I know which ones are needed and which aren't?

Here's another..."World Wide Web"

In the WINDOWS COMPONENTS WIZARD found through Add/Remove Programs function of CP I am ESPECIALLY talking about anything under the headings of: INTERNET INFORMATION SERVICES or NETWORKING SERVICES.

I want my computer to be as LEAN and UN-ENCUMBERED as is possible WITHOUT losing anything that provides any functionality that I need and I am not networking OR developing OR publishing.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS MESS???

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

John

Here's a list of Services, with some recommendations, just pick your Operating System.
Click on the Service, to get an explanation as to what it does.

Just a caution...please use the Black Viper site with extreme care. He has posted fixes to reset XP services to default - so that will help if the services issues get out of hand.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
