Hello to all.

For the last 6 months or so I have had to turn off WinXP Home Updating, as I have had no Internet or Mail connectons after the installs. After trying everything I knew to get it to work ( I have functioned as a Systems adminstrator for 3 years in my last job)(I've been unemployed for the last year and a half and am probably going to go flying without an airplane buts thats my problem) I have had to use Norton Go Back to restore it to functionality. At one point I thought I was going to have to nuke the C&D drives(all backed up to the external discs, but with all my jobsearch info ect. I manged to bring it back from the dead. I am running Windows Defender, Spyware Guard, Trend Micro, Norton Internet security and Firewalls, Spybot, AdAware, Spysweeper, Washer, you name it and I probably have got it, although I will only pay for Norton. I will run a Hijack This! log and submit it. I have to admit that I have to turn off one of the firewalls to get connected, and I no thats a no-no, but after spending 2 days going through endless tweaking I just have to use GoBack. Apparently Windows System resrore is inactivated by GoBack, because although it is turned on in Control Panel, on msconfig it is not highlighted.

I am also working on a friends' laptop (XP Pro Clone, so no support.) and of course as a newbie (ahh, those were the Daze, the 90's) he jumped on every porn site he could find and picked up the Flashing Fake Firewall and yellow triangle that steals everything in site. The registry removal has about 200 lines to remove and I am hoping that if this thing proliferates enough that you smart cookies will come up with an easier (less than 6 hours) fix. I am ---woh nelly I just uninstalled StopZilla on the laptop anf the triangle and FlashShield are gone. Of course on reboot they will come back but....what is the record for having a laptop on (with power cord & car adapter)? I may find out!

That's enough of my tale of the tape--I need to pump out some more Resumes'!

Any comments & hopefull support will be welcome!

Marty

It is advised to have only one antivirus and one software firewall installed. Okay to have a third party firewall as long as Windows firewall is disabled.
As far as antispyware programs, I would recommend having only one running in the background as they will just duplicate their protection and will slow your computer.
Two good free programs to scan with are in the links below.

Install Super Antispyware. Run it in safe mode. Allow it to quarantine whatever it finds.

Run the online scan for Bit Defender in normal mode. Allow it to quarantine whatever it finds.

Post a Hijack This log in the Hijack This Forum by following the directions in the link below if the programs above have not removed ALL malware. DO NOT post the log in this forum.
