Just saying hello.

I am really frustrated with a piece of adware that has nestled itself in my task bar and continually keeps popping up balloons stating "System Alert! System has detected a number of active spyware applications that may... " and that there is some type of adware/malware on my machine. There is a blinking icon the keeps switching between a question mark and x inside of a little shield. I have been trying to remove this for two days. I dl'ed HJT with the hopes of resolving this issue, but found that I do not know enough about the results of the scan to figure out what to do next. Please help. I have a search log ready, I just need to directed to the appropriate area. Thanks in advance for the help and for providing useful tools like this.

Also if anyone can offer any advice for Firewall adjustments/blocks router or software I would be very grateful. I have McAfee Firewall Plus and Norton 2007.

Super Antispyware will remove Smitfraud malware and the malware that accompanies the problem you have.
Use it first and if it misses something use the Smitfraudfix tool in the second link.
Install Super Antispyware. Run it in safe mode. Allow it to quarantine whatever it finds.

You should also do a scan with Bit Defender after using the tools above.
Run the online scan for Bit Defender in normal mode. Allow it to quarantine whatever it finds.

Post a Hijack This log in the Hijack This Forum by following the directions in the link below if the programs above have not removed ALL malware. DO NOT post the log in this forum.
