so i have spyshredder, followed three instruction manual, mostly the same thing using smitfraudfix.

one of the first thing mentioned is to remove spyshredder is to go in add/remove programs and remove it, but its not there.
i get popups every 2min. or so, computer lags, it shoves a wallpaper over my desktop and keeps giving false warnings about supposed critical problems.
i tried running symtech, ad-aware and avast in safe mode, deleted the results...used smitfraudfix....nothing...spyshredder is still latching on to my computer.
here is a hijackthis log:

Hi,

Please download this file and save it to your desktop:

If you already have SmitFraudFix please delete it. I want to make sure you have the latest version

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C: ), and launch from there.

***Note : "process.exe" is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
It is safe to allow this file.

Please do not use Option 2 unless told! This tool targets specific threats and the fix portion should not be run unless needed.

Thanks ;)
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.
Pre-course order of fresh spyware salad please with a side order of polymorphic dressing.
And to drink...a nice tall glass of adware!

For dessert; can I have a bowl of the freshest worms you have please?.

Never Give Up!

Close all open browser and explorer windows and click "fix checked"
Say OK and exit Hijackthis.

Reboot

Post fresh hijackthis log please.

See if you can change your home page in IE to what you want and see if it "sticks". Hijackthis should change it to about:blank.

I also want to check a few other things....

Download this tool to your desktop:
http://www.uploads.ejvindh.net/rootchk.exe
Run the program. After a short time a logfile will turn up. Copy the contents of the log into the thread.

Thanks
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.
Pre-course order of fresh spyware salad please with a side order of polymorphic dressing.
And to drink...a nice tall glass of adware!

For dessert; can I have a bowl of the freshest worms you have please?.

Never Give Up!

Hey,

I think AVG antispyware is interfering with what we are trying to fix.

Open AVG Antispyware by the click.
[*]Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is... click active. This should now
change to inactive.

Close the aVG window.
Right click AVG & choose Exit.

Open Hijackthis
Run system scan and check:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=...6Ojg5&lid=2

Close all open browser windows and click "fix checked"
Say OK and exit Hijackthis.

Reboot

Post fresh hijackthis log please.

Let me know if any more fake virus warnings.

hey,

Looks like we nailed it.

You can re-activate AVG AS if you like.
If you didn't buy it though the background protection is going to run out in a month.
After this you can still update manually & run manual scans to clean out nasties.

AVG AS will slow your computer some.
If you don't want it starting at all you can also disable the auto-updater in the main window.

To disable it from starting at boot...
Right click aVG by the clock and untick "start with windows".
Then exit it.

We should look at getting a better firewall installed instead of just the XP one.
XP does not monitor outgoing protection and it is as important as incomming.

Here is a few freebies to look at:

Zone Alarm:
http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/cat...=US&lang=en

Comodo free:
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Tutorial for install:
http://www.nordicnature.net/tutorials/index.html

Sunbelt kerio:
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-...ewall/Download/

Jetico free:
http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/jpfirewall.htm

Understanding and using firewalls:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/understanding-and-using-firewalls/

http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?p=56#56

Install ONE of the above and let it shut off XP firewall.

----------------------------

Let's do an online scan to make sure we got all the junk.

Using Internet Explorer please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save report button.
  • Call it Kaspersky.txt
  • Expand the arrow beside "file types" and save as .txt file.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware app you use.

Thanks
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.
Pre-course order of fresh spyware salad please with a side order of polymorphic dressing.
And to drink...a nice tall glass of adware!

Looking good.
Those flags by KAV are just cus it don't like reboot tools or process managers within SmitFraudFix.
AV has a hard time telling difference between good/bad use of such tools so they alert the user.

You can delete the following:

Off desktop:

SmitFraudFix.exe
SmitFraudFix <-- folder
rootchk.exe
OTMoveIT.exe

Others....

C:\SmitFraudFix <-- folder
C:\SmitFraudFix.exe
C:\OTMoveIT <-- folder
C:\rootlog.txt
C:\rapport.txt

Empty same from recycle bin.

Don't worry about KAV scan flagging mIRC. It isn't a virus but can be dangerous if used improperly.
Anotherwords don't accept scripts/files from people you don't know, dont run commands people you don't know & trust and don't click on unknown URLs people might post in chats. Some are bots!

So....

Everything still OK?
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.
Pre-course order of fresh spyware salad please with a side order of polymorphic dressing.
And to drink...a nice tall glass of adware!

For dessert; can I have a bowl of the freshest worms you have please?.

Never Give Up!
