Have had problems with slowness, freezing, etc... Got rid of McAfee with total uninstaller as provided elsewhere here in BCland. Installed Norton Corporate edition afterwards. But when doing scans or other maint., I keep freezing or auto-rebooting. It did a HIJACK THIS run easily enough (thank goodness) and am posting below... Help please?

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum Chaeron
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Copy and paste the following blue text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: fix.bat to your desktop.
Then double click on the fix.bat file on your desktopPosted Image
You'll see a black screen flash,thats normal.

@echo off
sc stop McAfeeFramework
sc delete McAfeeFramework

Restart your pc.

Download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Hi Richie,

It's a pleasure to meet you and many thanks for helping out.

I'm hoping that all I'm posting is the <C:\ComboFix.txt> file as you requested and not the quarantine file as well.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad".
This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article:
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

You are well advised to remove the program now.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present:

Viewpoint
Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player

Then restart your pc.
------------------------------------------------
Download/install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.

Please follow these instructions very carefully.

Launch/start up AVG Anti-Spyware.
On the main page click the 'Update' tab,and then 'Start Update'.
Note:
If you have any problems running the update process prior to running the scan,download/install the 'Full Database' from here:
http://download.ewido.net/avgas-signatures-full-current.exe

Once the updates have been installed,do the following:
Select the 'Scanner' icon at the top of the screen, then select the 'Settings' tab.
Once in the 'Settings' screen, under 'How to act?',then under 'Set default action for detected malware to:', click on 'Recommended actions',then click on 'Quarantine'.
Under 'Reports' select 'Automatically generate report after every scan' and unselect 'Only if threats were found'.
Exit AVG Anti-Spyware,don't run the scan just yet.

Have Hijack This fix the following [If still present], by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting 'Fix checked'.
Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [McAfeeUpdaterUI] "C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Common Framework\UpdaterUI.exe" /StartedFromRunKey
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://ka.bar.need2find.com/KA/menusearch.html?p=KA
O16 - DPF: {47CD99DF-8BCF-4B9B-94EF-02E51B2F79DA} - http://www.alwaysupdatednews.com/install/aun_0036.exe

Exit Hijackthis.

Find and delete:
C:\Program Files\Uninstall Need2Find Bar.dll

Now run AVG Anti-Spyware.
Click the 'Scanner' icon at the top.
To start the scan click on 'Complete System Scan'.
Please be patient,it takes a while for the scan to finish.

1) Once the scan is complete,do the following.
If AVG Anti-Spyware detected any infected objects:,click on 'Apply All Actions'.

2) Next click on 'Save Report'.
Copy and paste that report into your next reply.
The report can be found under the 'Reports' tab at the top.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware when you've done, then restart your pc.

Also post a new Hijackthis log.
Let me know how your pc is running now.

Many thanks Richie!

All seems great. I really appreciate your help and the articles that you referred me to at the end. Fantasitic. A donation is on its way thru the site.

Wanna help me on another problem (different system) since noone else has picked it up yet?
