I constantly get notices to update my version of Firefox to version but every time it tries to, it says it has failed because it could not change a certain file. Should I just uninstall the whole program and reinstall it? Should I CCleaner my system and see if that works? Has anyone else been having this problem?

Do you remember what file it was that could not be changed?
I would uninstall and then reinstall Ff before I would even think of touching the registry, since a careless mistake in the registry could cause serious harm to your operating system, let alone Firefox.
