I am new to Windows XP Pro. (Sorry, all you Vista users.) I copied all my desktop shortcuts from a Windows 2000 computer to my new desktop. The shortcuts point to files located on my server and all the drives are mapped. So why are my keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+alt+key) not opening the files any more? In 2000, I was used to being able to run any desktop shortcut by pressing the ctrl+alt combination. Now when I do that, nothing happens. If I go to the desktop and double click the shortcuts, they open immediately. How can I resolve this problem?

While I'm not sure about this, you may have to remap all of your shortcuts to make this possible. Try remaking one as an experiment - if it works, then that's the solution for the rest.

EDIT: A bit more research seems to indicate that Ctrl - Alt - key isn't a valid Windows shortcut combination. So, I suspect that this was an add-on program on your Windows 2000 PC that isn't installed on your XP PC.
