Hi daffsbro, it all depends on the Dell if it is sata 1 or 2 to get the most out of the Hard drive the motherboad will need to support sata 2. As for the Western Digital it is a sata 2 drive here is the link http://support.wdc.com/productspec.asp#wdcaviarse
