Hello,
I have a DELL Inspiron 6000 running Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Currently my computer is infected by this Tojan that "alerts" that there is potential spyware operation (also the small yellow triangle with the "!" in the middle). These were the first symtoms, but now I cannot since yesterday I cannot see the Control Panel.
I started looking at various options to remove it from my system; I must say I had uptodate AVG on my computer but it didn't guard my omputer; but I was not able to do it. Today I found your page and started following your recommendations, but initially I installed SPYWAREfighter and when I restatrted my computer it re-booted and it is ONLY working in "safe mode". Because of that:
1. I was able to download but not install Ad-Aware SE, so I couldn't perform the check (I have AdAware 2007 but it does not allow me to do a Full Scan)
2. I can't uninstall SPYWAREfighter in "safe mode"
3. I ran SpyBot S&D and eliminated 7 or 8 entries
4. I have Avast Antivirus, I ran it and found 4 trojans that were eliminated
5. I have run XoftSpy SE and found 290 problems, but I have no license so it does not eliminate the problems
6. I ran Stinger and the results showed no virus
7. Finally I ran HiJackThis, got the log file and am sending it along.

Please help me with this problem, I don't know what to do since I can only work with this computer when in "safe mode". I have lots of important data here. My final option would be to copy that data to a portable device and format my computer, which I don't want plus I am not sure if the data I copy to the portable device might hold the virus as well.
I will appreciate any help from you.

Best wishes,

ELC

Greetings,

I was highjacked by a Trojan which seems VERY difficult to remove, but appareantly I did it (did I?). I firstly posted here the 8th of this month, many people had read my post but no answer/help so far  . I followed all the instructions before posting anything, being an ovedient guy.
The BIG problem now (if I really was able to remove this annoying Trojan) is that I can't start my computer in Normal Mode since it will reboot. I can "work" in Safe Mode though (I can't uninstall or install programs in this mode though), either with or without network capabilities. But I cannot see the Control Panel icon (it disappeared long ago) and I can't perform the Run command for particular orders, e.g. regedit; it will tell that: Restrictions. This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. Plus now I am also having trouble with Runtime with some programs, for example Word (This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an anusual way).
When the computer re-boots (when trying to start in "Normal Mode"), the following information appears: STOP: c000021a {Fatal System error}. The Windows subsystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status 0xc0000005 (0x7c9106c3 0x0055f36c). The system has been shut down. Begnning the dump of physical memory. Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administration or technical support group for further assistance".
As a desesperate measure I re-installed windows and I guess it was not a good measure, since it didn't solved the problem (like rebooting from Normal Mode or the Control Panel icon), but additionally, it seems that I have two operating systems (not sure about this). When re-installing for the second time, I got the following message after reboot: "Please select the operating system to start. Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. Microsoft Windows XP Setup. The second option was the default.

PLEASE, please give me some advice in this, I REALLY need to work with this computer these days. I have run antiviruses, antispy (I own XoftSpy SE and RegCure), SmitfraudFix, and other things. I have followed directions from other pages (I run pccilin) but so far I still have this problem. As I said before, I guess I removed the virus, but the problems it caused are still with me.
I will run Hijack and post the log file here. Again, PLEASE give me some help with this... I am not that bad in following directions, I just need the correct ones from a "higher level mind in computing"
Thanks for any help.

Ed
