Windows Installer Missing

Hello

I am trying to install antivirus software (the same earlier version installed OK last year.

I get the following message (installing or uninstall)

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
Thiscan occur if you are running Windows Installer in safe mode, or if WI is nor correctly installed. Contact your support personnel

Don't know why missing. How can I reload/install the Windows Installer?

Hi nfhaines, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

What anti virus did you uninstall?

Do you have a separate disc for XP SP2? If you do you can reinstall it using that disc. If not you can download it from Microsoft.

You can try this free utility to re-register the Windows Installer also: http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix#Standard_version
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Thank folks for the two suggestions. I visited my church Tech (we have a big control room) He down loaded the installers twice. After download aRESTART is requested. They are there before RESTART and gone after.

I was using TrendMicro PC-Cillan. It expired end of this July. Bought 2007. Can't uninstall old one or install new one.

John the tech thinks I have a Virus which kills Windows Installer, os you can't uninstall the virus?? Is that possible?
