Up until recently I could go onto any web site and click on links to mpeg video clips and they would open in media player, now I get the standard 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' message. The only thing i have done recently that i think could affect this is installing itunes/quick time. When I tried firefox the video clips opened up with quick time, I uninstalled quick time and now they open in media player. But still no luck in IE7. I have tried the default program setings and file associations but still no good. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Both IE7 and WMP11 are causing a lot of problems.
It could be because the web sites are not IE7 ready yet. In the mean-time you can always revert back to IE6.

Or just use Firefox.
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.

Sorry, perhaps didn't explain quite right. I have been using IE7 and WMP11 for ages now, the sites have been fine until yesterday. Also in case it matters, I am using Vista. I dont really want to revert to IE6 or use firefox as I much prefer IE7.

Check out the article on How to troubleshoot compatibility problems that affect Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista.
Also be sure to look at KB 936211 that is noted in the above article at the end of step one.
