Flashing Paswword Dialogue Box

whenever my sys is restarted and i either try to use the mouse or key board the password dialogue
box flashing continuously untill i used the esc key to stop the flashing. what causes my sys to react in this manner, could this be a virus. if not what is it.

My guess is a video driver. Try entering safemode by rebooting the computer. When you hear the single post beep, start tapping the F8 key and choose safemode. If the picture is stable, it's probably the driver. What is the make and model of your computer?
