I have both a DVD-RW and CD-RW drives on my PC but I always seem to get problems when using CD-RW and DVD-RW discs.

For example, if I try to burn music to CD-RW discs I get an error message but it works fine if I use CD-R discs and the same goes for if I try to put a movie on DVD, get an error when writing to the DVD if I use DVD-RW discs but no problem if I use DVD-R discs.

Can anyone advise why this might be happening.

Here is a Link on Packet Writing. Read this at your own risk.

Anyhow, a CD/DVD ReWritable needs different software to use the disc over and over programs such as Nero InCD, Roxio, Drag-To-Disc , Sonic Solutions Drive Letter Access, etc Here is the wikipedia article on packet writing.
The name says it all -- 59 and holding permanently

You didn't mention what software you are using to burn your discs with. FWIW, there appears to be an occasional error using Nero 6 and 7 on DVD-RW discs where reburning occasionally does not succeed if the RW disc was quick-erased. Doing a full erase always corrects the problem. This has happened to both me and a friend who has completely different hardware.
