Hello again tpdolph. After reviewing your log I see a couple of things that we need to take care of. Please print these directions and then close all open windows (including this one).

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following entries and click in the checkbox in front of each one to select it:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank

These are restrictions. Leave them unchecked if these were set by you using a software like Spybot Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster or another similar protection software, or if these were set by your system administrator, otherwise check these also:

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.

Hi again tpdolph. It looks like our about:blank entries do not want to go away so let's try one more time to delete them before we pull out the big guns.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following entries and click in the checkbox in front of each one to select it:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchAssistant = ,
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,CustomizeSearch = ,
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [video[1]] C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\XPER1CBX\video[1].exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [video[1]] C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\XPER1CBX\video[1].exe

When done, click on the Fix Checked button to finish the repair and then close HijackThis.

Now follow these steps to reboot into Safe Mode and delete the offending files.

How to Start To Safe Mode Using the F8 method in Windows XP

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Find the following directory and delete everything IN it (do not delete the directory itself):

C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\

Next, let's clean up the temporary directories:
* Click Start
* Point to Programs
* Point to Accessories
* Point to System Tools
* Click Disk Cleanup.
* Select all items shown and click the OK button.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it.

Hello again tpdolph. OK, we are mostly clean but there are still a couple of items to fix. Please follow these steps in order:

Step # 1

Download remv3.zip from here: http://forums.skads.org/index.php?showtopic=80 (last post --> Attached File) and save it on your desktop. Then extract the zip file to c:\ms4hd. Boot your computer into Safe Mode. Instructions on how to do this can be found here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/ .

Navigate to c:\ms4hd and double-click on the remv3.bat file. When it is done it will open a log file of what it found. This log file is saved in c:\log.txt.

Reboot your computer back to normal mode and post the contents of c:\log.txt. To open it, click on start, then run, and type notepad c:\log.txt and press the OK button.

A notepad will open up. Please create a reply to this message and post the contents of that notepad along with a new hijackthis log in Step 4.

Step # 2

Download Find It NT-2K-XP.zip from here: http://computercops.biz/zx/Zupe/Find%20It%20NT-2K-XP.zip. Unzip the contents of Find It NT-2K-XP.zip to a folder, for example c:\findit

Navigate to the c:\findit folder and double-click on find.bat. A command prompt will open and it will search your computer for malicious files. Let it finish. It could take 5 - 10 minutes.

Once it has finished a Notepad window will pop up with output.txt. Copy the entire contents of output.txt into your next post in Step 4.

Step # 3

Now download one of the free anti-virus applications listed below. They are both free and we highly recommend each of them.

Note: if you do alot of instant messaging then I would suggest Avast. It also scans your instant messaging app(s) and messages.

Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition and
Avast Anti-Virus Home Edition.

Step # 4

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic along with the 2 log files created in Steps 1 and 2 and I will review it. Don't worry, we're going to get this thing!

OT :thumbsup:
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hello again tpdolph. Your log looks pretty clean except for the video[1].exe line. Let's try and delete it using Registrar Lite. Download and install Registrar Lite from here: http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe . Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under the programs section of your Start Menu. Once registrar lite is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

Press the Enter key. In the right-hand pane look for the entry which has video[1].exe in it. Click on that entry to highlight (select) it and then click on the red "X" in the toolbar to delete it. If asked click Yes or OK.

Please print these directions and then reboot your computer into Safe Mode as shown below:

How to Start To Safe Mode Using the F8 method:

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Find the following files/directories and delete them:

C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\XPER1CBX\video[1].exe

Next, let's clean up the temporary directories:
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it. Also, let me know how your computer is running. Are you still being hijacked?

OT :thumbsup:

Hey tpdolph. It looks like I missed one entry that someone pointed out to me. When you're in Registra Lite also copy and paste this entry into the address bar and hit the Enter key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Look for any entries in the right-hand pane referring to video[1].exe and click on it to select it. Then click on the red "X" in the toolbar to delete it.

Cheers.
