Microsoft supplies a free Compatibility Pack for pre-2007 versions of Office programs and viewers (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) to allow those programs and viewers to open (for programs and viewers) and save (for programs only, not viewers) files in the new file formats used by Office 2007.

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats:

"By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. For more information about the Compatibility Pack, see Knowledge Base article 924074."

How to install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack so that you can use earlier versions of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word to open and to save files from 2007 Office programs:

If you don't want others to be "bothered" with installing the Compatibility Pack, another option is to use the Save As command in Office 2007 programs to save the files you want to email in the old (pre-Office 2007) file formats.
