Most Windows XP systems will automatically find the drivers needed to install things like, joysticks, phone docks, usb memory cards, external drives, etc. For some reason I always have to manually tell my system to look in "windows/inf" or "windows/system" before this autoinstall will take place. Any suggestions on how to elimate this problem?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your USB drivers. Make sure you have nothing plugged in to any USB ports while you do this.
