I just downloaded a copy of dotnetfx via Windows Update. The set up file is still in my Windows Tempoary Files. I was wondering if the set up file can be copied to my program back cd-rw and used again if it becomes necessary to re-install Net Framework?

How big is the file? If its like Ie6setup.exe its just a small file that connects you to some download servers and the servers take it from there. It should be ok to keep as long as the Net Framework remains available for download. After that it either won't work or it will redirect you. If its a large file then that would be the whole program. If you use it in the future you will probably have to update it.

FYI - one can obtain a CD copy of The .NET Framework Software Development Kit (SDK) includes everything you need to write, build, and test .NET Framework applications: the common language runtime, the unified class libraries, documentation, samples, tools, and command line compilers.

Thank you to everyone that has or will reply.

The file is 23+mb long so it must be the whole setup. The advice about possible updating after re-installing is great. I did not think about that possibility.

I read the information about the cd that could be purchased. The version on the disk can not be used with my os (winme) and win98. At least not for the purpose I wanted it for, but still information added to my "knowledge base".

Thanks again.
