HI Anyone here,

I've recently purchased a Hitachi 500 GB on eBay. I have been working with PartitionMagic and more recently Acronis Partition program (recommended from some one here and it does seem to be a better program than PartitionMagic) to set up partitions on the 500 GB drive only to have all but about 100 GB of the partitions lost every time.

I've heard that I was suppose to get a special disk with the 500 GB drive to re-program Windows XP to except all the 500 GB. I did not get this disk and/or program with the hard drive.

I've also heard that Windows XP was made before they hardly conceived of this large of a drive so XP wasn't made to handle this large of a drive.

Anyhow, does anyone know where I may get this update to XP so that I can start using all 500 GB on my new Hitachi 500 GB Hard Drive? Anyone?

Thank you.

John

What size are you making the partitions? If they reduce to around 137 gB, then your system doesn't support LBA addressing and you'll need to enable it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303013 Also, your BIOS must support it 48 bit LBA - so check with the system manufacturer.
