On my add and remove programs I have the following Java entries

As you can see they take up loads of space.

Is it okay to uninstall the 5.0 updates now I seem to have version 6 on there or are these completely different entities and my computer will curl up and die if I remove them.

I am running Windows XP Home with automatic updates and Internet Explorer 7.

You may delete all but the latest version of JRE.

The latest version of JRE is "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2".
To download it, access HERE.
I recommend installing it and deleting other versions.

I can uninstall all the previous updates once I install the one in the link above? I reckon that'll save me about a gb of space!

No you don't. Just use the latest and verify what you have here.

Okay, I downloaded from the link above and installed.

Then I deleted the old ones which were there but the new download has given me three entries (under the entry for Iomegaware).

Can I get rid of any of these at all?

You only need one.

The development kit includes JRE 6 update 2. Keep it (168MB)

I would delete the other two folders (57.53MB and 342.00MB)
