Every time I go to Windows update it has the following 4 updates. And then it downloads and, supposedly installs them. As you can see from the message.

The following updates have been successfully installed:

Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB918439)

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6
Service Pack 1 (KB916281)

Security Update for Windows Millennium Edition (KB908519)

Security Update for Windows Me (KB888113)

Now I did reboot the computer. But every time I go to the update site it does it all over again.

Does anyone know whats going on here?

Microsoft no longer supports 98 or ME. There are no more updates.
See http://www.microsoft.com/windows/support/endofsupport.mspx
In the beginning there was the command line.

If you still want to get the updates, you can find most of what you'll need at these two sites.

http://cws.internet.com/software_index/
http://cws.internet.com/category_subs/2253.htm

http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/

For the 62nds link, you'll have to install Firefox browser. But if you still want to use IE for everything else, you can uninstall FF after getting the patches and updates.

Thanks, mommabear. But being that this is my very first time here, I just couldn't get the two links to work.

Thanks garmanam. This is handy to have, just in case I should ever need it. But basically I solved my problem by reinstalling Windows on top of itself. For one thing, the original install didn't have Word Pad installed. I kind of guessed that maybe the "Windows update" might have needed Word Pad, to install the updates.

Like I said, just a guess. But after the re-install of ME I could get all the, still available, updates just fine.
