ive just bought vista (proably a big mistake, but never mind)
(ultimate version)

and whenever i try to update (as in from windows update) i get the following error code: 80073715

as well as this being frustrating, im slightly worried because a google search only came up with about 4 results relating to this, none of them very helpful :/

the microsoft website also came up empty...

any help would be greatly appreciated as i dont even know where to start, never mind fix the problem...

The search box in the Start menu works as a run box as well. You can also open the run box with Windows Key + R.

cheers for that alpha,

i have one more question, which is probably the last one (or hopefully anyway...)

the instructions on the thread listed by usasma say that you should delete files from this folder, which i have no problem doing, because they are listed as damaged,

however the method he says to do it, i.e right clicking and deleting doesnt work, i only see properties,

any ideas on how to delete this file, or re-install it?

the folder its held in is:

C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files

thanks for any help in advance

I'm a bit confused here, which files are you trying to delete? Are you using the Run command, or are you trying to delete them through Windows Explorer? The thread that I posted is not a part of BC, but I think that it relates to your problem - hence the link to their solution.

thanks for the continued help usasma,
it meant to litteraly delete a file in that folder, which i realise now was incorrect, as you cant actually do that.
what u need to do it use control panel, uninstall programs to do it.

ive done that now, and hopefully, when i restart, it will correct the problem.

thanks again (hopefully you wont be hearing from me again... unless i contribute to help with someone elses problem

Ok so it didnt correct the problem.

i still get the error code, and now that means that im out of ideas, apart from a complete re-format of HD and re-instal, but that would invalidate my vista key, so i cant

again, any other ideas would be helpful.
