Hi all,
after cleaning my puter of a virus (or 2!!), I noticed when I ran the system configuration utility to see which items were running at start up, some files were still present, particularly;

AVSERVE2 and SKYNETAVE.

Does anyone know how to remove "dead wood" from the system config util. start up???

Many thanks

Geoff

You untick it under the startup section then apply and restart if that does not work dl HijackThis.exe and post you log under the HJT log forum page.

There's a great utility called Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin.

http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

It permits you to uncheck items you don't want to run at startup (as in msconfig), and also to remove deadwood, i. e. , references to programs you no longer have on your computer but still have references in the registry.
