dumprep.exe Information

What is dumprep.exe?

The Dumprep.exe tool is a Windows XP fault logging program. If a serious error occurs, Dumprep.exe writes the error details to a text file. The Dumprep.exe tool then prompts you to send the error information to Microsoft.

There are two methods for disabling Dumprep outlined below. Please do not attempt method 2 unless you feel comfortable editing the registry. Incorrectly editing the registry can cause serious problems.

Method 1: Use the System Configuration Utility to disable the Dumprep.exe tool

  1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Startup tab.
  3. Click to clear the dumprep 0 -k or dumprep 0 -u check box, and then click OK.
  4. Restart the computer.
Method 2: Use Registry Editor to remove the Dumprep.exe entry
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

  4. Restart the computer.
