FurMark is a utility that allows you to benchmark and stress test your GPU, or graphics card, so that you can determine how well it operates under heavy loads. Using these tests you can diagnose hardware failures or inadequate cooling issues that you may have with your GPU.
Using the benchmarking component of FurMark you can generate a score that represents how well your your graphics card performs using a very intensive OpenGL test. You can then compare your score against other FurMark users to determine if your card is performing well.
The stress test component of Furmark allows you to test how well your graphics cards operates when under a heavy load. When a GPU has hardware issues they commonly fail when under heavy use. In order to detect these issues, you can use Furmark to perform a stress test that quickly overheats your GPU. When running this test if your computer freezes, you have graphical artifacts displaying on your screen, or other issues then this may indicate an issue with your card or inadequate cooling.
As an added bonus, FurMark also includes a CPU stress test called CPU Burner that will quickly get your computer's processor to 100% utilization and overheats it. Using this tool with a CPU temperature monitor utility allows you to test your CPU to see how well it operates under this heavy load and whether or not your cooling solution is doing an adequate job.
