Remove SoftCop (Uninstall Guide)Posted by Grinler on October 17, 2009 @ 09:19 PM · Views: 13,296
What this programs does: SoftCop is a rogue anti-virus program that utilizes Trojans and fake online scanners to promote itself. SoftCop can be encountered through sites that pretend to be online anti-malware scanners that state you are infected, but in reality are just an advertisement promoting SoftCop. It could also be installed on your computer through the use of Trojans that pretend to be a Flash update that is needed to view a video online. Regardless of how the program gets installed on your computer, the Trojan installer will configure SoftCop to start automatically when Windows starts. The Trojan will also install numerous files that will then be detected as malware when the program scans your computer. If you attempt to remove these files, SoftCop will state that you need to purchase the program in order to remove them. The reality is that these files are all harmless and are only being created to scare you into thinking that there are actual malware files on your computer.
While the Trojan is running it will also display security warnings and messages on your desktop. These warnings will state that active malware has been found or that a worm is trying to hack your computer. The Trojan will also display a fake Windows Security Center that will suggest you purchase SoftCop to protect yourself. Like the fake scan results, these alerts and messages are just another tactic to make you think your computer has a security problem. Without a doubt, SoftCop is not a program that you want on your computer or that you should trust what it says. Therefore, ignore all of its warnings and do not purchase it. If you have already purchased the program then I suggest you contact your credit card company and dispute the charges as this program is a scam.
