What this infection does:
PC Security 2009 is a rogue anti-spyware program that is
advertised and installed by malware and uses deceptive tactics to convince you
that you are infected. When PC Security 2009 is installed on your computer it
will create numerous fake infection files on your computer. These files will
then be identified as infections when PC Security 2009 scans your computer.
In reality, though, these files are all harmless and have no possible way to
actually harm your computer. They are only their so that if you check for the
existence of the file, you will find it and think the program is telling the
truth.
When PC Security 2009 is installed it will be set to automatically scan your
computer when you login. It will also constantly display fake security alerts
stating that harmful programs or activity were detected on your computer. The
text of these alerts are:
Trojan Detected!
A piece of malicious code was found in your system which can replicate itself
if no action is taken. Click here to have your system cleaned by PC Security
2009.
Privacy is at risk!
Attention, keylogging and intercepting scripts were detected. Your private
data may be disclosed to third parties. Click here and PC Security 2009 will
remove the infection.
Privacy alert!
Your system was found to be infected with intercepting programs. These can
log your activity and damage your privacy. Click here for PC Security 2009
spyware removal.
If you click on these alerts, you will then be prompted to purchase the program
in order to fix these problems. Though we did not purchase this program, our
experience with other rogues like this has shown us that purchasing and registering
the program does not actually make the program useful. In fact, because you
gave credit card information you are now exposed to identity theft.

There are a total of 9 images you can view.
Last but not least, PC Security 2009 will also create a fake Windows Security
Center and hijack Internet Explorer. When PC Security 2009 is loaded it will
launch a window that impersonates the legitimate Windows Security Center. The
difference between this imposter and the original is that the imposter recommends
that you register PC Security 2009 in order to protect your computer. Also,
when browsing the Internet using Internet Explorer you will find that when visiting
sites you will randomly be shown a message stating that there is a Threat
of virus attack when visiting the site. It should be noted that this message
will appear randomly regardless of the site that you browsing.
With all of this said, you can see that PC Security 2009 was designed for one
reason, and only one reason; to scam you into purchasing their program. If you
have already purchased it, I suggest you contact your credit card company and
deny the charges. To remove this program please use the removal guide below

Automated Removal Instructions for PC Security 2009 using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:
- Print out these instructions as we will need to close every window that
is open later in the fix.
- Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, or MBAM, from the following location
and save it to your desktop:
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Download Link (Download page will open in a new window)
- Once downloaded, close all programs and Windows on your computer, including
this one.
- Double-click on the icon on your desktop named mbam-setup.exe.
This will start the installation of MBAM onto your computer.
- When the installation begins, keep following the prompts in order to continue
with the installation process. Do not make any changes to default settings
and when the program has finished installing, make sure you leave both the
Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware checked. Then click on the Finish
button.
- MBAM will now automatically start and you will see a message stating that
you should update the program before performing a scan. As MBAM will automatically
update itself after the install, you can press the OK button
to close that box and you will now be at the main program as shown below.
- On the Scanner tab, make sure the the Perform
full scan option is selected and then click on the Scan
button to start scanning your computer for
PC Security 2009
related files.
- MBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can
take quite a while, so we suggest you go and do something else and periodically
check on the status of the scan. When MBAM is scanning it will look like the
image below.
- When the scan is finished a message box will appear as shown in the image
below.
You should click on the OK button to close the message box and continue with
the PC Security 2009 removal process.
- You will now be back at the main Scanner screen. At this point you should
click on the Show Results button.
- A screen displaying all the malware that the program found will be shown
as seen in the image below. Please note that the infections found may be different than what is shown in the image.
You should now click on the Remove Selected button to remove
all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry
keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM
may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message
stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so. Once your computer
has rebooted, and you are logged in, please continue with the rest of the
steps.
- When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and
display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then close the Notepad
window.
- You can now exit the MBAM program.
Your computer should now be free of the PC Security 2009 program. If your current anti-virus solution let this infection through, you may want to consider purchasing the PRO version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to protect against these types of threats in the future.
If you are still having problems with your computer after completing these instructions, then please follow the steps outlined in the topic linked below:
