Wide Area Network
Also known as: WAN

A Wide Area Network, or WAN, is a series of smaller LANs (Local Area Networks) that are interconnected through various means over very large distances whether they be cities, states, or even countries.

If a company has an office in New York and an office in London, and the computer users at each location are able to share data between the two offices, they are generally doing this over a WAN.
