Being on a plugged in desktop when a bolt of lightning strikes "nearby" and blacks-out the neighborhood (or hits your house itself)......is certainly a risk to the computer...
Is the risk of damage to the UNplugged laptop any less...?
I would think that the risk would be removed....But I'm not sure.......
