I recently purchased an external Hard Disk that has unfortunately crashed on me. It is about 200GB in size and i can access the device by doing a surface scan with data recovery software. My problem is that i need to activate my device so that it can revert to its usual mode of operation i.e. without using a surface scan, just simple plug and play would be preferable. what kind of drivers do i need? Please Help...

If the device crashed, you won't be able to revert it back to its normal state of operations because it's no longer capable of doing that. If you said you recently purchased it, I'm sure it's still under warranty and you'll be able to get another one. I just hope you were able to get your files off with the tool you mentioned. If a device fails or crashes, it's done for good, unless of course you can send it back to toshiba and see if they can refurbish it. Either way, you have to send back the drive because as it is now, it's unusable.
