I have Windows Vista and I use MSN for my e-mail. Whenever I attempt to close my MSN e-mail, a flashing window pops up stating "msnupdate!@#@.exe" - the box is asking me to aloow it or cancel it. I always cancel it as I'm afraid it is something wanting to infect my computer.

I have run Norton scans and Spybot and Ad-Aware - but it never finds this irritating file.

If I need to remove this from my computer, can someone walk me through all the steps as I am a newbie............

Thank you so much -

judyjudyjudy

Okay, I finally broke down and called Verizon support. It was a ligit update, just incase anyone else runs into this. It is one of the updates that run in the background, XP users don't see it but with Vista you will. Thanks tho' to all of you for your time and links, they will come in handy!

In general, if you deny that kind of popup (with a genuine Windows dialog asking for confirmation) it'll refuse permission for that application to install on your system (so you won't be infected).
