I was updating my GameTap application and I received a popup hacker alert from my Kaspersky AV that said "Someone is trying to change Internet Explorer" or something along those lines. "Allow or Block?" I chose "Block". Then another popup said "IEXPLORE.exe has been changed". I clicked to open the browser and received this message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and at the bottom while the page was trying to load it says something about a dns error. I later found out that the GameTap update was supposed to change IE, to allow the app to be launched from the browser or something. Maybe by blocking it it messed IE up? Also, I noticed on a scan with Ad-Aware I had the IST toolbar, but I never noticed any effects of this malware and I scan every week so it wasn't on my computer for long. I removed the toolbar with Ad-Aware. Any ideas how to fix IE?

As long as the GameTap addon is safe, try installing it again - and this time allow it. Make a note of what it says it's allowing/blocking and you'll be able to go into the Options and change it there if needed.
Also, Kapersky should have a log file that shows what actions that it blocked.

I did reinstall the GameTap update with the protection turned off, but this did not fix IE. Kaspersky says "No Attacks Blocked" on the reports. All it says is IEXPLORE.exe has been changed and now it can't retrieve updates because of "DNS name resolving error". I went to Kaspersky settings and it was set to block IEXPLORE.exe, but I changed it to allow all outbound and inbound tcp and udp and everything under IEXPLORE.exe says allow now but it still won't connect. Please help!

Reset IE to default settings (Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab...Reset button) - then close and reopen IE to see if you can connect.
TEMPORARILY disable Kapersky to see if you can connect (then re-enable it even if you do connect).
Right click on your network connection in the system tray (next to the clock) and select Diagnose and Repair

Thanks for your help. I realized that when I changed the Kaspersky settings to allow IE I needed to restart my computer for the changes to take effect.
