Yahoo Messenger Messenger List Vs Address Book Contaxts show on Yahoo Address Book but not on Messenger List

On my Yahoo Messenger List I often cannot find a contact, but when I attempt to add it I get a message that the contact has already been added. I look in the Address Book and sure enough it is listed there. How can I correct the problem so it does not continue to occur and without deleting and re-adding the contacts, how do I get the invisible contacts to show on the Messenger List. Thank you.
